Recall Rebound

April 30, 2010

Toyota hasn’t been a fan favorite over the past few months. With the recalls of many popular models, the company has done its best to save face with the public. The Toyota Prius has proved itself to be the company’s customized auto-safety kit. The Kelley Blue Book, largest auto valuation company in the U.S., has named the Prius as the top green car! I think Toyota deserves a round of applause for this victory. A promotional bumper sticker would be a nice gift to anyone that owns a Prius. It could say ” Even though we’ve caused accidents and deaths, thanks for choosing Toyota! Home of the #1 green car in America!”. Maybe the message starts off a little rough, but you get the drift. Congrats again to Toyota!

ECO’Neill Surf Line

April 28, 2010

There are many designers out there that are creating customized apparel and customized jewelry from natures goods. Surf apparel company O’Neill has created a new line of eco-friendly surf apparel named ECO’Neill, a little wordplay on the parent line’s name. The shop has a ocean side feel to it and all of the products are made with organic cotton, recycled materials, and bamboo. It’s great for surfers to be able to wear eco-friendly apparel being that they spend a lot of time in outdoors and in the water.

Mean Green Seed Bomb Machine

April 27, 2010

The Earth is a beautiful place, but it’s not often that many of us get to see that beauty on a daily basis. Common studio has designed a vending machine that dispenses customized planting seeds, also called Seed Bombs, for residents to use in vacated land lots and sidewalk grass areas. It’s a way to enjoy the wonders of Earth and how easy it is to make your community look better. The vending machines are available in certain parts of Los Angeles currently and the option to buy is open to individuals, schools, and businesses. Green Studio will create a community intervention plan and will the customized seedlings. I think this a fun and informative way for communities to come together for a cause that is good for them as well as the Earth.

Ruddy Waters

April 26, 2010

When celebrities lend their face to a cause it means that the issue is pressing. Dolphin captivation is a devastation happening in Japan. In this PSA for The Cove, A-list celebrities tell is why we should save our precious friends. The video shows shocking footage of dolphins being punished and killed for their meat, which is mercury filled anyway. Another great way for celebrities to lend a hand to this world issue would be to collaborate on customized Eco-friendly apparel to benefit the cause.

If Looks Could Kiehl

April 23, 2010

Kiehls has been known for their top-notch skin care products since 1851. They have recently teamed up with Pharell Williams, Jeff Koons, Julianne Moore, and surfer Malia Jones to make customized labels for their Acai Damage-Protecting Toning Mist. $200,000 of the proceeds will benefit the Rainforest Alliance. I’m enjoying the fact that a customized beauty product will benefit an excellent cause. People love to look good and say they did something to support world initiatives. If you’re in the market for a new, rejuvenating skincare regimen, try out Kiehls new Acai toning mist. You’re glow will be as radiant as the rainforest.

PETA:We’re Not Going to Take It

April 22, 2010

Bea Arthur was an avid supporter of PETA’s initiatives against farmhouse cruelty before and after her death, having left money in her will to the organization. PETAs new ad calling McDonald’s out on their practices, uses the mention of Bea’s undying (no pun intended) support on the issue. At first glance it seems a little scary seeing her face in the ad, but I would rather see it there than a promotional t-shirt for PETA. Hopefully, McDonald will take heed to their wrongdoing and change their practices. Fast food is just getting a bad name and it all started with KFC’s customized merchandise, also known as “The Double-Down”.

Let There Be Light!

April 21, 2010

The Milan Furniture Fair 2010 is featuring some of the most innovative and eco-friendly furniture in the world. Gionata Gatto, an Italian designer, has come up with the brilliance that is the Bike Lamp and the human powered table lamp. Although the names for the two aren’t exactly accurate, being that they didn’t have an exact name at the fair, it’s customized LED lighting at its best. Imagine if you just had to pedal a couple of minutes, in your own home, for about a half hour of light? That would be awesome. That means a lower light bill and you are doing your part to help the environment. Exercise your body while exercising your brain. Genius!

PUMA’s Thinking Outside The Box

April 14, 2010

Have you ever thought of how many trees are wasted from the production of shoe boxes? Some people don’t even keep shoes boxes a week after their new purchase. PUMA has taken a step toward decreasing their carbon foot print and erased the shoe box from the packaging of it’s customized footwear. I must say the mini recycled tote bag is absolutely chic and a great way store shoes. It’s a much more eco-friendly product than a cardboard box. Team has put all of the info about their collaboration with Fuse Project for the sustainable product into this promo video.
