Google: Where Everyone Wants to Work
June 1, 2009Today, I took a tour inside Googleplex, Google’s main headquarters located in Silicon Valley, California. This search engine giant provides its lucky employees with so many perks that many of them just don’t want to leave (or maybe that’s the point). In addition, the Googleplex is tricked out with eco-friendly features.
1. The Googleplex has 18 restaurants spread out through 16 buildings, and most of them serve organic and locally grown food, doled out in organic tote bags. If that isn’t nice enough, Google has its own garden which employees are welcome to pick from.
2. Say you need to get from Building 1 to Building 16 for a meeting. It’d be a pretty long walk in California heat. But, Google offers electric scooters to maneuver around between the various search engine palaces.
3. Ok, so you can get around campus in an eco-friendly way, but what if you need to escape the Googleplex for a little bit. Google has its own rent-a-car service that beats out Avis. They have a fleet of regular and plug-in Toyota Priuses that any employee can take it into town, of course with its own Google promotional air freshener.
Google also offers the following perks to its employees: 4 full service gym facilities, themed rooms for creativity sessions, sleeping pods, a spa, a massage parlor, laundry room, game room, two swim-in place pools, and a barber shop
And one more thing: all of the above services (except the hair cuts) are FREE! I’m just a little jealous…
